Have You Had Trouble Feeling Safe, Seen, And Supported?

  • Does a lack of understanding from others about your identity leave you longing for more authentic and affirming connections?

  • Have other people mistreated you for living your truth and being who you are, causing anxiety, depression, or trauma?

  • Are you craving meaningful connections from a community of people who truly understand you?

Being a member of the LGBTQIA+ community can be a challenging way of life, to say the least. You’re constantly trying to reaffirm your ideals while navigating a world that doesn’t always validate your experiences.

Within the everchanging societal and political landscape, it’s easy to feel anxious and worried about your safety, rights, access to valuable resources, as well as how others will treat you. And without the proper support, you could be struggling to navigate your life without feeling threatened, misunderstood, or insecure.

Perhaps you have trouble being authentic around people because you’ve learned not to trust others, leaving you isolated as you carry the weight of your emotions and experiences. For the first time, you may be curious about what life could be like with the affirming support from an LGBTQIA+ therapist.

Many LGBTQ+ People Struggle To Find Compassionate Support

There are many people who are contemplating coming out or who already identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersexual, or asexual that are seeking counseling. Oftentimes, folks within the LGBTQIA+ community can feel disconnected, anxious, and overwhelmed by all of life’s hurdles.

When someone’s identity is constantly dismissed, questioned, or politicized, it can become second nature to internalize fear and shame. These feelings can create a sense of uncertainty as to whether happiness and the freedom to live your truth are even attainable.

And these experiences don’t just take an emotional toll—they can also impact how a person approaches relationships, their ability to focus, and their overall sense of purpose. Many find themselves lacking motivation or withdrawing from others when they feel emotionally depleted.

But the weight of these struggles doesn’t have to be carried alone. A strong support system and affirming, therapeutic care can make a meaningful difference.

It’s important to prioritize a time and space where you can feel grounded and safe enough to explore who you are and what you need. At Safe Space, we know and understand that you deserve care that’s affirming, accepting, and compassionate. We work with children, teens, adults, and couples who are exploring their identities, facing transitions, navigating trauma, and trying to find acceptance in the world.

LGBTQIA+ Therapy Gives You A Safe Space To Explore Your Needs

Our team at Safe Space offers you the individualized treatment you need to improve your emotional wellbeing so that you can thrive moving forward. Founded in 2021 as a direct response to the lack of mental health services available in our community, we pride ourselves on being able to provide affirming, culturally competent care to as many people as possible.

Our team has since expanded to a group of diverse, trauma-informed, LGBTQIA+ affirming counselors who have served a wide range of individuals, couples, and families across Utah with therapeutic services that have transformed their lives. We aim to meet you wherever you find yourself in your journey—respecting your pace and supporting you every step of the way.

A Therapeutic Process That Fits Your Identity And Meets Your Needs

Our team uses a collaborative and client-centered approach to create a treatment plan that properly addresses your concerns. From the very beginning, we will try to pair you with someone who can relate to your experiences so that you can build a sense of trust and safety early on. Many of our therapists identify within the LGBTQIA+ community themselves, so many of us have gone through similar experiences to you and can provide unwavering guidance that you may not find outside of therapy.

Based on your needs and preferences, your treatment plan may draw from one of our evidence-based modalities, which include:

  • Psychodynamic Therapy helps you understand the roots of your distress by placing an emphasis on trust within the therapeutic relationship.

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) teaches you how to accept inner experiences while committing to actions that are aligned with healing and growth.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) challenges harmful thought patterns, offering ways to replace them with more healthy, supportive behaviors

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) gives you the building blocks to improve emotional regulation, interpersonal relationships, mindfulness, and distress tolerance.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) allows you to explore all of your inner “parts” and resolve internal conflicts with compassion and understanding.

  • Somatic Therapy lets you connect with your body’s innate wisdom and helps you regulate your emotions through physical awareness.

As a practice, we offer individual, couples, group, and family therapy sessions. You are in full control of your healing journey, and our LGBTQ+-affirming specialists will adjust their approach depending on what resonates with you. No matter what, we want you to feel seen, safe, and heard as you find peace and happiness.

Common Concerns About LGBTQIA+ Affirmative Therapy…

Will I feel accepted in LGBTQIA+ therapy?

In our counseling sessions, we recognize, reinforce, and validate the experiences of individuals and couples who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, or anywhere else on the LGBTQIA+ spectrum. We do so by using therapeutic approaches that recognize the impact of societal stigma and discrimination on LGBTQ+ folks and empower them to live more authentic lives. Our therapists are trained to provide holistic, culturally competent care so that you can grow into who you’re meant to become with a newfound sense of confidence.

I’ve tried therapy before and it didn’t help—what will make this time any different?

Sometimes, it can be difficult to find a therapist who truly understands the challenges you face as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. And having a bad experience with someone who wasn’t affirming of your identity could leave you feeling unseen, misunderstood, and disconnected from the therapy process altogether. Luckily, here at Safe Space, our team is committed to pairing you with the right counselor to ensure that you have the opportunity to engage in a meaningful and dynamic therapeutic experience. We want you to feel safe and seen by offering you individualized care that gives you affirmation and freedom to live your truth.

I’m afraid I can’t afford LGBTQIA+ therapy.

At Safe Space, it is our goal to provide access to high-quality mental health services for as many people in our community as possible. That said, we understand how the cost of therapy could be a barrier holding you back from seeking the help you need. That’s why we accept a wide range of insurance plans and offer sliding scale options and payment plans to make treatment services more manageable. And if your insurance is out-of-network, our team will work with you to submit superbills for reimbursement. No matter what, we want to make the payment process as painless as possible so that you can focus on getting the support you need to thrive as the best version of yourself.
